Arizona’s booming construction industry lacks skilled workers such as high quality electricians according to David Jones, president of the Arizona Construction industry who was quoted by CBS5Az. The construction industry in Arizona added 1,500 jobs in May 2016 alone according to the June 2016 employment report from the state’s Office of Employment and Population Statistics.
Part of the reason that the construction industry in Arizona is growing so rapidly is that the state is widely considered to be a state with favorable business practices for construction. In fact, the Phoenix Business Journal reported that the Associated Builders and Contractors ranked Arizona first in the country for these types of business practices in 2015. In addition, Forbes projects that Arizona will lead the country in job growth in the coming years, while the Arizona Republic reported that experts claim that “Arizona has become a landing spot for expanding businesses.”
Thus, Arizona’s construction industry will generate a large number of jobs for electricians in the coming years. The Arizona Office of Employment and Population Statistics predicts that the numbers of electricians will increase by 45.2% during the 10-year period ending in 2022. This rate of growth exceeds that nationally by more than 3-fold. In fact, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the Phoenix area had the 9th highest number of jobs for electricians of any city in the country as of 2015.
